Gramsevak heading for R-Day event killed in road mishap

A 37-year-old gramsevak, who was on his way to attend a Republic Day function in the district, was killed when his motorcycle was knocked down by a car this morning, police said.
Ramesh Sambaji Patil, in-charge of Amboli village, was on his way to attend the Republic Day event at Dahanu when his motorbike was hit by the car coming from the opposite direction on Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway at around 9.30 AM, Kasa police station's assistant sub-inspector V S Chenne said.
Patil died on the spot in the accident, he said adding that the body has been sent for postmortem.
The driver of the car has been taken into custody and an offence has been registered in this regard under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of IPC and under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act, the police officer said.
