With the commerce and industry ministry taking steps to streamline the procedures, grant of patents during April-October this fiscal year has increased by 21.5 per cent.
Similarly, grant of trademarks application jumped by 191.4 per cent during the period, according to the Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM) tweet.
CIPAM has been created as a professional body under the aegis of Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) to work towards creating public awareness about intellectual property rights, promoting filing of IPRs through facilitation and providing inventors with a platform to commercialise their IP assets.
It said that the continuous efforts by trademarks registry and Indian Patent Office to streamline processes and clear pendency are reaping tremendous results.
The commerce and industry ministry is taking several steps including hiring more people and training them to reduce the time and pendency of patents and trademark applications.
The total number of patent applications and trademark registration requests pending as on February 1, 2016 are 2,37,029 and 5,44,171 respectively.
