Internationally-acclaimed supermodel Ujjwala Raut says she is happy to see a change in the mindset of the Indian designers, who are now giving a lot of emphasis on models.
Ujjwala, 37, who has walked the ramp for top international names like Yves Saint-Laurent, Roberto Cavalli, Diane von Furstenberg, Dolce & Gabbana and, Victoria's Secret among others, said she has nothing against Bollywood but she thinks fashion is like a models birth right.
"It's great to see that fashion is coming back to models even though it is happening slowly. I feel that fashion is like a model's birth right. I have a lot of friends in Bollywood, we all used to model together.
"I went international and then made it to Bollywood. I have nothing against the film industry, even my younger sister Sonali (Raut) does acting too. I just feel it is great to see the designer's supporting the models," Ujjwala said on the sidelines of Lakme Fashion Week.
Modelling has often been seen as a stepping stone to having a career in Bollywood. Ujjwala said opting a career in films after modelling is the most easy way to be in showbiz
"It just that Bollywood is something that everyone wants to do after modelling. So if you don't really go international and if you don't have anything to fall back, the next step has to be Bollywood. It is a great industry, you get noticed a lot ," said the supermodel, who is also a mother to a nine-year-old girl.
Ujjwala said with all her modelling experience, she feels it is time for her to give back to the industry and would love to do something to mentor young models as there is a lot of scope for nurturing young talents here.
"I am in talks for something. It was brought to my attention last week. There is a lot of room here for grooming. I was fortunate enough to learn from the best in the business in India and abroad. Modelling is not just about dressing up. It is about how you talk, how you look how you carry yourself. How patient you are . It is about a lot of waiting," Ujjwala said.
