The proposed industrial park, to come up in an area of 1,460 acres, will be developed by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) in Kallabella and Badankuppe villages in Chamarajanagar district.
"The Union environment ministry has given environmental clearance for the proposed industrial park in Chamarajanagar with certain conditions," the official told PTI.
KIADB has been asked to take 'consent to establish' from the State Pollution Control Board besides setting up a special purpose vehicle to implement, monitor and comply the environment safeguards, he said.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had laid the foundation stone for the project two years ago.
Chamarajanagar is situated 185 km from Bengaluru and is well known for its natural resources like black granite, manganese, garnet and white stone, among others.
