In its bid to promote generation of non-conventional energy in Odisha, the state government today decided to set up grid-based solar rooftop projects on PPP (public-private-partnership) mode.
This was decided at a high-level meeting presided over by Chief Secretary Jugal Kishore Mohapatra. The state government has set a target of producing 5 to 10 MW of solar power by installing roof top solar power projects.
As a part of this exercise, it has been decided to start a pilot and replicable grid connected rooftop solar project, Energy Secretary P K Jena said, adding, that at initial level, the project will be piloted on roof-top of the non-residential government buildings here and Cuttack.
It has also been decided to invite tenders from open market on competitive bidding. A separate nodal agency would be in place soon for implementation of the solar projects projects in the state.
"The energy department has also been asked to complete the initial processes and identification buildings for the purpose within November 15," an official said.
Jena said Odisha has a great potential for production of grid connected solar energy. Various incentives are also available through State and Central Government schemes. 1KW power can be generated over a rooftop of 15 sq meter area, which is available in small residential houses also.
He said the project will be extended after success of the pilot project.
