Ground floor of furniture showroom gutted

The ground floor of a multi- storeyed furniture showroom was gutted in a fire here, resulting in loss of lakhs of rupees
The fire broke out at the showroom situated on old Sabzi Mandi on Phagwara-Banga road at midnight last night, a fire official said today.
The managing partner of the showroom, Satnam Singh Basra (Jassi), said the fire caused a loss of Rs 12 to 15 lakh.
He said almirahs, plastic chairs, toys, tables and other furniture items were gutted in the ground floor as well as part of the basement.
However, Fire Officer Tarlochan Singh said the exact amount of loss as well as the cause of fire was being ascertained.

He said the estimated loss ran into lakhs of rupees and said two fire fighting engines worked for about two hours to douse the flames.
He claimed that fire brigade personnels succeeded in saving the upper stories of the showroom as well as part of the basement, besides adjoining buildings.
