Thirty-five kg gold ornaments were recovered today from two youths at Nellore railway station by Government Railway Police, officials said.
The gold ornaments kept in suitcases were recovered from Kailash Kumar and Kundan Kumar Vyas, both hailing from Rajasthan and working with a Nellore-based jewellery firm, GRP DSP Srinivas Rao told PTI.
The two were found moving around in a suspicious manner with heavy suitcases after getting down from Howrah-Chennai Mail at Nellore railway station. When the GRP made enquiries, they failed to produce valid bills and other documents pertaining to the gold jewellery, the DSP said.
"During questioning, the duo told police that on instruction of the jewellery shop proprietor Bharat Jain, they have brought the gold ornaments from Kolkata to Nellore," Rao said, adding that the GRP has informed the matter to the Central Excise, Income Tax and commercial tax officials.
