GSM players add 48.5 lakh users in July: COAI

The subscriber base stood at 73.95 crore at the end of June 2014

GSM based telecom players added 48.5 lakh new subscribers in July to take the total user base to 74.44 crore, industry body COAI said today.

The GSM subscriber base stood at 73.95 crore at the end of June 2014, the Cellular Association of India (COAI) said.

COAI, which represents telecom players like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular, said the data does not include GSM subscriber number of Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices.

Reliance Jio Infocomm had also joined the body recently.

Vodafone added the maximum number of users in July with 13.68 lakh subscribers joining its network to take its total base to 17.12 crore at the end of month. The operator has a market share of 23.01 per cent.

Idea Cellular added 11.05 lakh users and its overall subscriber base at the end of July stood at 14.01 crore with a market share of 18.82 per cent.

Country's largest mobile operator Bharti Airtel added 5.10 lakh new users to its network to take its total base to 20.97 crore with a market share of 28.18 per cent at the end of July.

Aircel added 9.17 lakh new users during the month to take its subscriber base to 7.39 crore whereas Uninor added 8.53 lakh users and its overall base at the end of July stood at 4.01 crore.

Videocon added 87,436 while state-run MTNL added 7,704 new users during the month. The respective user base of the operators is 56.37 lakh and 32.83 lakh.
