Goa State Pollution Control Board will assist hotels along the beach belt secure a consent under the Air and Water Pollution (control) Act to run their establishments.
A recent order by National Green Tribunal (NGT) has made it mandatory for all the hotels to have a consent under the Act.
For this, a special drive will begin this week in Candolim-Calangute belt, which has one of the highest density of the hotels, GSPCB chairman Jose Manual Noronha said yesterday.
The response to the notices issued to the hotels has been poor because smaller establishments like beach shacks and eateries are not aware about this mandatory certificate required by them to run the trade, Noronha said.
The state pollution control board has formed a six-member committee which will have a personal interface with the applicants, and even help them in filling the forms.
Nearly 2,632 industries and hotels were issued show cause notice by the GSPCB when it was found that they were operating without a consent, which is mandatory as per the law.
