Despite West Bengal political leadership not in favour of the Goods and Services Tax rollout from July 1, the migration has been to the tune of 97 per cent in both state and central assesses.
"The migration level stands at 97 per cent, be it central or state assesses. We are fully geared for the new regime from tomorrow," Chief Commissioner of Service Tax S K Panda told PTI this evening.
"There are about 75,000 central assesses for central excise and service tax in this region. While, the state VAT tax payers are to the tune of some three lakhs. And in both the cases the migration level is 97 per cent," he said.
Under the service tax the exemption was Rs 10 lakh and for Value Added Tax it was Rs 5 lakh.
But, under GST the annual thresold limit is now Rs 20 lakh. That means any traders and enterprise turnover exceeding Rs 20 lakh will subject to GST ambit.
Panda said all their offices are ready to handle any sort of queries and problems through the seva kendras.
"We are open tomorrow and even on Sunday there will be a few officials to help," Panda said.
Traders remained apprehensive about clarity on the new tax regulations.
