Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said the government would soon finalise guidelines for plying of battery-powered rickshaws in the city.
She said these e-rickshaws can be be used to connect different metro stations with nearby localities.
Dikshit made the remarks while interacting with a group of e-rickshaw drivers.
The government had last year decided to come down hard on operators of these non-motorised vehicles which were not covered under provisions of the Delhi Motor Vehicle Act.
Dikshit assured the drivers that the e-rickshaws can continue to ply as they have been catering to the needs of people in travelling short distances.
"The city government would soon finalise guidelines after consulting all stakeholders," she said.
Meanwhile, addressing a meeting at Raghubir Nagar in West Delhi, Dikshit said her government has been taken care of the poor and other vulnerable sections of the society through various schemes and projects.
Talking about the food security scheme, she said around 32 lakh people are being benefitted in the city under the first phase of implementation of the programme.
"The government at the Centre and Delhi government have been working in tandem to ensure that no one remains hungry," Dikshit said after laying foundation stone of a community centre.
West Delhi MP Mahabal Mishra and local MLA Malaram Gangwal were present on this occasion.
At a separate function, Dikshit inaugurated two centres of Aapki Rasoi at JJ Camp Anand Vihar and Old Seemapuri.
Cooked food is distributed to homeless people under the 'Aap Ki Rasoi' programme. The programme, which is part of the government's Bhagidari initiative, was launched in 2008 with an aim to provide nutritious meal to destitute people.
With the commissioning of the two new Aap ki Rasoi centres, the total number such centres has gone upto 20.
