Guj: 2 held with fake notes with face value of Rs 2.21 lakh

Two persons were arrested in Gujarat's Amreli district for allegedly printing and circulating fake currency notes with face value of Rs 2.21 lakh, police said Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, officials of the Amreli police's Crime Branch Friday night intercepted a car heading to Dhari, around 250 kilometres from here, an official said.

The two persons who were nabbed from the car along with fake currency have confessed that they printed them using colour printers and had circulated them in the market, he added.

The fake notes, of face value of Rs 2,21,220 lakh, comprised 53 "Rs 2000" notes, 97 "Rs 500" notes, 212 "Rs 20" notes, 240 "Rs 100", six "Rs 50" and two "Rs 10" notes, he said.

The official identified the accused as Dharmendra Trivedi and Vikramsinh Parmar.

A colour printer, ink and paper have been seized from Trivedi's house in Junagadh, he said.

He said the two were handed over to Dhari police who have begin further probe.
