To evaluate the situation, Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today visited districts in North Gujarat that are facing flood-like conditions due to incessant rains and directed local administration to intensify efforts to restore supply of electricity and drinking water.
According to an official release, Patel visited some parts of Mehsana, Patan and Banaskantha districts in North Gujarat by road, since weather conditions were not suitable for an aerial survey.
Later, she held a review meeting at Mehsana and asked the administration to focus their efforts to restore water supply in affected villages, the release stated.
Since electricity supply is down due to the flood-like situation, the CM asked officials to get extra resources from other districts to restore electric supply, the release said.
Patel also directed the authorities to pay cash doles and other compensation to affected citizens at the earliest, the release stated.
Patel asked officials of the forest and building department to work in co-ordination to clear roads at the earliest, since a large number of uprooted trees blocked roads, the release stated.
In Mehsana district alone, more than 800 locals of six different villages were evacuated and shifted to safer places. Around 4 lakh food packets were sent for distribution in Banaskantha, the release stated.
To cope with the situation, 14 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed in various talukas of Banaskantha, such as Bhabhar, Deodar, Deesa, Tharad and Vav. These teams have shifted around 248 stranded locals, while 180 Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were also called in from Dantewada to rescue locals, the release stated.
