"More than 400 Congress workers were detained under Section 68 of the Gujarat Police Act. The Congress party had the permission for public meeting but not to take out a rally," Gandhinagar Superintendent of Police Sharad Singhal told PTI.
Congress leaders including state unit chief Arjun Modhwadia, Leader of Opposition Shankarsinh Vaghela, former Leader of Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil and Siddharth Patel were detained alongwith other MLAs.
"The Gujarat Congress had organised a party gathering in the Chhavani area at sector six of Gandhinagar. Later, they started marching towards the Assembly. As they were just given permission for a public meeting and not for a rally, police detained them," Singhal said, adding that all the party leaders were released after an hour.
"The present BJP government has indulged in several corrupt practices. The involvement of ministers like Babu Bokhiriya, Anandi Patel and Purshottam Solanki in corruption (cases) has been confirmed in various courts," said Congress MLA Tejashree Patel.
