Gujarat government has performed remarkably well in different fields of development in the last decade, state Governor Kamla Beniwal said during her address to the third session of the 13th Legislative Assembly today.
"My government, which firmly believes in 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat' (one India, excellent India), has made efforts to keep alive the attempts of Sardar Patel for the unity of the nation," she said.
The Governor said the state government did a commendable
job in different spheres in the last 10 years.
Chief Minister Narendra Modi, also the PM nominee of BJP, has been at the helm of affairs of the state.
"My government has performed remarkably in the last decade. Agriculture production, which was at Rs 9,000 crore in year 2001-02, has been gone up to Rs 1,12,000 crore in the last fiscal. In year 2001-02, total production of milk was 58.76 lakh metric tonne, which is now 103.15 lakh tonne," the Governor said addressing the session which began on a stormy note due to din caused by Congress MLAs.

"In year 2000, the number of universities was 15 which has been increased up to 52, while the government colleges are increased from 20 to 71 now. State has made progress from the revenue deficit of Rs 6,732 crore in year 2001-02 to revenue surplus of Rs 4,602 crore," the Governor said.
Interestingly, the Governor had been in the past locked in a protracted turf battle with Modi, especially on the issue of appointment of Lokayukta in the state.
She said the infant mortality rate in Gujarat had come down to 38 from 60 in 2001. "In year 2001-02, the school dropout rate for students in I to V was 20.50 per cent which has been decreased upto 2.07 per cent," she said.
Wishing a good future to Gujarat, she concluded, "I heartily wish that in future also, Gujarat achieves new milestones in development and directs the whole nation with the slogan 'Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas' (support of all, development for all) and provide successful leadership on the path of prosperity".
The Governor had to cut short her speech and put its copy on table due to continuous sloganeering by Congress members who levelled corruption charges against the Modi government.
