Justice G R Udhwani yesterday disposed of a petition filed by the employees union following GM India's decision to stop production at its Halol plant in Gujarat from tomorrow, after the government assured that it will examine the matter.
The General Motors Employees Union had moved the court seeking its direction to the government to move the industrial tribunal after conciliation proceedings between the employees and the management failed.
The union had alleged that the government, under the influence of the company, was dragging the matter.
A conciliation meeting on April 17 failed, but the government was yet to move the industrial tribunal against this, the petition said.
Only the industrial tribunal has the adjudication to settle disputes between the employees union and the company, it said.
GM India had last week announced that it will stop production at Halol plant on April 28, as it was consolidating manufacturing at its Talegaon facility in Maharashtra.
