Guj govt committed to improve living standards of poor: Rupani

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today said his government was committed to improve the living standards of the poor by providing affordable houses, healthcare, food and jobs.
He alleged that the Congress has cheated the people by giving "false" promises and indulging in "imaginative talks" ahead of the 2012 state assembly polls.
"The government is also committed to provide cheap houses, healthcare, jobs and food to the poor. We have opened 125 generic medicine stores and plan to open 1,000 more such units," he said while speaking at the inauguration of two housing projects in Nikol locality here.
Rupani said his government has undertaken the project of constructing three lakh houses in urban areas and two lakh units in rural areas under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

"67,000 government jobs were provided in just one year and 1,09,500 youths were given private job offers at job fairs organised by the state. Under the Annapurna Yojana, the government will provide food to the poor for Rs 10 per plate," he said.
"We say only what we can possibly do. Congress cheated people by distributing false application forms promising to provide houses to the poor. It made false promises and indulged in imaginative talks (ahead of the assembly elections in 2012)," he said.

Thef Chief Minister was referring to Congress' 2012 election promise of providing affordable houses to the poor and middle-class people and distributed lakhs of forms among women if it was voted to power in the state.

The projects that Rupani inaugurated today are meant for 1,120 families from the economically weaker sections and have been constructed under the Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojana at the cost of Rs 131 crore.
"The buildings have solar panels on the rooftops so that residents do not have to pay the cost of electricity incurred on the lifts and common lighting, a first for such a project in the state," Rupani said.
He also inaugurated a slum rehabilitation project for 67 families.
Earlier in the day, the chief minister also unveiled a hostel for the students from Prajapati community and an annexe building of circuit house at Sahibaug.
