Members of the Muslim community in Gujarat celebrated Eid al-Adha on Monday with religious fervour by offering prayers at mosques and exchanging greetings.

In Ahmedabad, devotees came out in large numbers to offer prayers at Sidi Syed's Masjid, Jama Masjid, Rani Seepri's Masjid, and Sarkhej Roza on the occasion of Eid al- Adha, also called the festival of sacrifice.

Parts of the old city having sizable Muslim population wore a colourful look with people dressed in traditional attires seen greeting friends and relatives and exchanging gifts and pleasantries.

Eid al-Adha, also known as Bakrid or Id-ul-Zuha, marks Prophet Abraham's sacrifice of a lamb after God spared his son, Prophet Ismail.

Devotees sacrificed animals and took part in feasts with their friends and family members in the city.

The festival was also celebrated with traditional enthusiasm and gaiety in other parts of the state, specially Bharuch which has a considerable Muslim population.
