"Every year, around 1.4 lakh people die in accidents in India, which is the highest in world. Management of traffic has become a major challenge for police, especially in urban areas, where congestion is one of the main issues. Enforcement of traffic rules is also a tough task," Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) P C Thakur today told reporters here.
"For us, Singapore is an ideal country, which has done a tremendous job in managing traffic and ensuring safety of citizens with the use of latest technology," he added.
To throw more light on the latest technologies, Gujarat police and state Home Department have organised a one-day seminar-cum-exhibition 'National Traffic Technology Summit-2015' on January 2 in Ahmedabad.
The seminar will focus on the areas of smart traffic management, smart traffic enforcement and smart road accident investigation, Thakur said.
Over 500 experts from across the world will take part in the event.
