Amid reports of the rift between senior Gujarat Congress leaders- Bharatsinh Solanki and Shankersinh Vaghela- the party has postponed a programme that was scheduled to be held here tomorrow.
However, the party claimed that the event- a get-together of all the past office-bearers of the state Youth Congress- was postponed to condemn the police firing during farmers' agitation in Madhya Pradesh.
The planned event was hit by controversy and rumours were doing the rounds that Vaghela was unhappy about his name not being mentioned in the list of 'invited dignitaries'.
The party took the decision to postpone the event hours after Gujarat Congress chief Bharatsinh Solanki met Shankersinh Vaghela, the Leader of opposition in Assembly, and claimed that there were no differences of opinion between them.
According to the state general Secretary of Youth Congress, Parthivraj Kathwadia, Vaghela's name had been dropped as per his own request.
"When we planned the event, a get-together of all the past office-bearers of the youth wing, we had kept his name in the card. However, we removed his name on the last moment after he told us that he may not be able to come due to other commitments," Kathwadia said.

Apart from Solanki, state party in-charge Ashok Gehlot were invited for the event.
According to Kathwadia, the event was postponed as the party has decided to hold protests across the country tomorrow to condemn the police firing on farmers in Madhya Pradesh.
"Since the party has given a pan-India call to hold protest tomorrow, it was not possible to hold that event. That is why we have postponed it. The new date will be declared later" he added.
State Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi said party's general secretary in-charge for Gujarat, Ashok Gehlot, will be here tomorrow to take part in another programme related to education.
"Congress will stage protests in all the districts of the country tomorrow to showcase our solidarity with the MP farmers and to condemn the police firing on them. Gehlotji will be in the city to take part in another programme," he said.
