Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today performed the ground breaking ceremony for the renovation of the complex known as Vitthalbhai Patel Bhavan.
The Rs 121-crore renovation aims to equip the building with modern facilities and the work is likely to be completed in one year from now, an official press release said here.
The renovation will include increase in the seating capacity in the Vidhan Sabha from current 182 to 220 (talking into account likely rise in the number of Assembly seats by 2025). The overhaul exercise will also include furnishing the offices of MLAs located in the building.
The building reflects commitment of people's representatives towards citizens, he said and called for the need to work in such a way that trust of public in democratic process grows and strengthens further.
Rupani asked lawmakers to work with transparency, decisiveness and sensitivity towards issues of public interest.
Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel, Ministers and MLAs, among others, were present on the occasion.
