Gujarat Assembly Dy Speaker to be elected on Oct 3

Election for the post of Gujarat Assembly Deputy Speaker, a position lying vacant for the last many years, will be held on October 3 even as Opposition Congress staked its claim to the office.
Congress MLA Sailesh Parmar and Mangu Patel of the ruling BJP have filed their nomination forms for the post lying vacant for more than two decades.
With ruling BJP having a comfortable majority in the House, its candidate is likely to emerge winner.
"As per the high tradition of Gujarat Assembly, the ruling party should give the post of Deputy Speaker to a member of Opposition party," Leader of Opposition Shankarsinh Vaghela of Congress said today.

However, the ruling party in Gujarat has rejected Congress claim to the post. In a statement here, BJP said in ten Congress-ruled states, the posts of Speaker and Deputy Speaker are with the ruling party.
