The Anti Terrorist Squad today claimed to have nabbed a Kashmir-based mastermind of a drug racket, operating all over Gujarat for more than 20 years, which allegedly funded terror outfits with proceeds from the drug trade.
ATS team arrested Gul Mohammad Jargar (62) from his house in Bijbehra village of Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir and brought him here today.
Jargar was on ATS's radar for many years as several drug peddlers had told the police that he provided them with Charas and other narcotic substances.
According to ATS, Jargar was a constable with CRPF and had served in many parts of the country in the 70s. After four years with CRPF, he left and joined the J&K police as a constable.
After another four years, he quit the police force too and joined a gang of Anantnag-based drug dealers.
"Though he had quit his CRPF job, he wore the uniform while trafficking Charas in Gujarat. He established a network of drug peddlers and dealers in Gujarat and made crores of rupees between 1984 and 2005," said Assistant Commissioner of Police, ATS, K K Patel.

He was allegedly also involved in the landing of a huge cache of arms in Gujarat during 1995 and 1999.
According to ATS, Jargar sourced weapons from the terror outfit JKLF using his drugs money and supplied them to Rasool Khan Pathan alias Rasool Party, alleged mastermind of the 2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts. Rasool is now believed to be in Pakistan.
