According to a Gujarat government release issued here, after the massive earthquake of 2001, many affected families were shifted to the relocation site near Bhuj by the Gujarat state government under its Bhuj Rehabilitation Programme.
However, these quake-hit citizens were not given any "revenue rights," due to which they couldn't transfer their houses to another family member or take loans on that property, the release said.
Taking note of their long standing demand, Patel awarded revenue rights to 4,423 quake-hit people, the release said.
During the 2001 earthquake, 50 families in Anjar town were identified as 'affected tenants'.
Under a separate scheme for rehabilitation, Patel today alloted 50 square metre of plots to each family to build their houses. Cash assistance of Rs 1.40 lakh was also given to each of these families today.
