"Relentless efforts of BJP government has put this desert on the tourism map of the world. Earlier nobody came here. But since 2005 nearly 3.25 crore tourists have visited," she said.
Rann Utsav is organised by the state government every year to attract tourists who can stay in specially-built tents in the desert.
The Rann of Kutch is known as 'white desert' as it is inundated by the sea water during the monsoon and when the water recedes, it leaves behind a white layer of salt.
"We have also formed new Tourism Policy 2015 and hope it will help in further development of the sector," Patel said.
Rann Utsav was conceived by Narendra Modi when he was the Chief Minister. A successful marketing campaign featuring Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan made the white desert a sought-after tourism destination.
Recently Prime Minister Modi and top police officers of the country spent three days at the Dhordo tent city in the area during the annual conference of Director Generals and Inspector Generals of Police.
