The website, www.Evotingcongress.In, was launched simultaneously from various cities of the state, Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Bharatsinh Solanki said during a press conference here.
He said that the awareness campaign was initiated keeping in mind the possibility of the Gujarat State Election Commission introducing this system which enables voters to cast their votes online using the internet.
"Though there is no official word on it from the State Election Commission, we are going ahead under the assumption that it will be introduced for the forthcoming local body polls. Since the whole process of electronic voting is very technical, we have decided to educate people by launching this website," Solanki said.
"Since today is Rahul Gandhi's birthday, the Gujarat Congress decided to launch this website today. Our workers organised camps at different cities today since morning and educated people about the system," Solanki said.
Earlier, the Gujarat State Election Commission had introduced electronic voting on an experimental basis in local body polls.
Solanki said that Gujarat's BJP-led government is not concerned about problems which could be faced by people if voting is made compulsory.
