"It is time for women of the state, engaged in any work, whether they live in big cities or in remote villages, to join in the state's development efforts," Patel said at the Gujarat day function at Vyara in Tapi district.
"Women should take up the two campaigns launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 'Swachhata Abhiyan' and 'toilet for every home' campaign, and implement them in right earnest. These two campaigns will make the cities and villages disease- free and more livable," she said.
"The government has reserved 33 per cent posts in the police force for the women. About 3,000 women are expected to join the police force this year," Patel informed.
The state government holds the official function to mark important days such as the Independence Day or the Gujarat Day at different district-level towns every year.
Police and state reserve police jawans marched through the main streets of Vyara town today during the celebrations.
