Reacting strongly to reports which claimed that the forthcoming Gujarat Assembly session would be for merely a single day, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Assembly Shankersinh Vaghela alleged here today that BJP-led government is running away rather than face the House proceedings.
"As per their pre-planned strategy since 15 years, the BJP government has drastically reduced the total number of days of the Assembly session. We have learnt that the next session will meet for just a single day. When people face several problems, it is natural for their representatives (MLAs) to expect a proper discussion in the House" Vaghela said in a Congress press note issued here today.
"It seems that just like past BJP governments, this government is also hiding itself from facing House proceedings. This shows the escapist mentality of this government," Vaghela said.
He claimed that the people of Gujarat face several problems, such as deteriorating law and order, irrigation problems, irregular availability of electricity, inflation and corruption.
"It seems that government is scared of answering such questions in the House, as just one day will not be enough to discuss such problems. Earlier also, we requested the Speaker to call more sessions, but instead of showing a positive attitude, this government doesn't want to give more time for house proceedings," Vaghela said.
He said that no fruitful discussions on Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports were held during the last budget session held in June, since it was tabled on the very last day of a month-long session.
"It is necessary that enough time is given for CAG related discussions during this forthcoming session. I have also requested the Speaker to look into the matter and ensure that the House runs in a constitutional manner and as per the Assembly rules," Vaghela said.
