The Government has approved the proposal to set up a company to execute the project. This followed after the VMC made a presentation of the project before the Government authorities in Gandhinagar sometime ago, Municipal Commissioner H S Patel told PTI here today.
Now, the civic body will take the next necessary steps, including registration of the company and obtaining environment clearances, he said.
"The city of Vadodara is committed to transform Vishwamitri into a major asset that can improve the quality and life here," the civic chief said.
The civic body has prepared a master plan for the venture. Vishwamitri is a 70km long river, of which about 25km stretch passes through the city. The river front project has been planned over 17km stretch.
The project envisages widening of the river, construction of retaining walls, jogging parks, children's play area, gardens along the banks, landscaping and crocodile rescue centre, among others.
