Gujarat in grip of heatwave, mercury shoots up to 44 degrees C

Gujarat reeled under sever heat wave conditions as the Mercury crossed 44 degrees Celsius mark in many parts of the state.
North Gujarat's Deesa was the hottest place in the state today at 44.4 degrees Celsius, followed by Ahmedabad at 44.3 degrees Celsius, a Met department statement said.
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's health officials said seven person suffered heat-stroke and were admitted in various government-run hospitals today.
Till yesterday, the heatwave had claimed four lives here.
State capital Gandhinagar, popularly known as 'green city', registered maximum temperature of 43.9 degrees Celsius.
The mercury rose to 44 degree Celsius in Surendranagar in Saurashtra. Elsewhere in the region, Rajkot sizzled at 43.6 degrees Celsius while Bhavnagar recorded maximum temperature of 43.5 degrees Celsius, Amreli recorded 43 degrees Celsius.
In Vadodara in central Gujarat, the Mercury touched 41.8 degrees Celsius mark, while Vallabha Vidyanagar town recorded 41.4 degrees Celsius.
Bhuj in Kutch district recorded 41.4 degrees Celsius, Kandla (airport) 43.1 degrees Celsius.
A Met department forecast said the heatwave conditions would continue for the next 24 hours.
