"The anonymous person called up the GPCC president Arjunbhai Modhwadia yesterday from an 18-digit internet number and threatened him with his life," Mehsana district Superintendent of Police (SP) J R Mothalia said.
Modhwadia received the call when he was on his way to Ahmedabad from Mehsana, the SP said, adding that a complaint was lodged in this regard by the Congress leader and a probe has been launched by one Special Operation Group (SOG) Police Inspector, Mothalia added.
The caller, who was talking in Gujarati, also asked Modhwadia to join the BJP and assured him that he could fix a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi if he wanted, the police said.
Talking to reporters here, Modhwadia said, "It was an anonymous call and the number was different. There were around 16-17 digits and I believe that it could be a computer- generated number so that the caller cannot be identified. First, he started abusing me for some time and then he threatened to kill me."
Modhwadia said he had received such life-threats in the past as well, but had ignored them.
"However, this time I filed a complaint as the caller was talking in Gujarati and there are chances that police can nab him," he added.
