"Gujarat succeeds where Delhi fails," Modi said, speaking at the inauguration of Asia's first BRTS conference here.
According the state government, the conference was hosted here against the backdrop of 'best practices of Janmarg Ltd BRTS model' in the city, and was being attended by management experts from Asia, Latin America and Africa, amongst others.
Modi, on this occasion, announced a plan to set up a Multi-Modal Affordable Transport Authority (MATA) for the developing urban areas in Gujarat.
Talking about the proposed development of "world-class" cities along the Gujarat coastline, Modi said a multi-modal transportation system was essential.
The 468-km long Narmada main canal in the state could be used for water transport, he said.
In many Indian cities, people need 45-60 minutes to commute within the city limits, while Ahmedabad and Surat were fortunate to have average commuting time of 20 minutes, he said.
