An exchange of fire broke out between police and some people who were illegally transporting sand gravel in Rajasthan's Dholpur district today, but one one injured in the incident and the accused managed to flee, officials said.

"A police team tried to stop the tractors at Kanchanpur but its occupants opened fire at the police. The police personnel had to retaliate in self-defence," the Dholpur SP Rajesh Singh said.

He said no one injured in the firing, but the accused managed to escape and a hunt has been launched to nab them.

The officer said the six tractors, which were being used to transport the gravel illegally mined from Chambal river, have been seized.
