Unidentified gunmen fired at and injured a policeman in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir today but authorities ruled out a terror angle.
Constable Jagdish Singh was injured when the gunmen, travelling in a car, fired at him at Shahidi Chowk in the district around 9:20 am, police said.
The injured cop was initially shifted to district hospital in Kathua and later referred to Government Medical College (GMC) hospital at Jammu for specialised treatment, police said.
Additional SP Kathua, Nasir Ahmed said that incident cannot be equated with a terror attack. "It can be some case related to drugs," he said.
The gunmen managed to escape in the car having Punjab registration number, police said, adding the vehicle was later recovered from some distance after it stopped suddenly.
Police has registered a case and launched a hunt to nab the culprits, Ahmed added.
Kathua, which is located on the international border with Pakistan, has witnessed a number of terror attacks in the recent years, including on army camp and police station.
