An interstate gang which allegedly smuggled semi-automatic firearms from Madhya Pradesh to Delhi and NCR has been busted with the arrest of three persons and recovery of eight pistols, police said today.
Usman alias Mangta (57), Umarddin (41) and Pappu Solanki (26) were arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi police on November 12 from inter-state bus station, Sarai Kale Khan, after it received a tip off that they would be delivering a consignment of illegal firearms at the spot.
"The gang procured sophisticated, semi-automatic firearms from Badwani, Madhya Pradesh and sold them further to gangsters and criminal elements in the area of Delhi, Meerut and Muzaffarnagar. We had received a tip off that a consignment of illegal weapons will be supplied following which a trap was laid near IP Park, near Sarai Kale Khan and the trio was nabbed.
"During search, recovery of eight pistols with magazines and one spare magazine was made," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.
"We had recently learnt that besides Munger in Bihar, illegal weapons were also manufactured in the hills and forests situated near borderarea of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh and later smuggled into Delhi and NCR," he said.
Accordingly, a team of Special Cell led by Inspector Manoj Dixit worked on the case and deployed informers in and around Delhi, UP West and Madhya Pradesh. After sustained investigation, the team succeeded in arresting the trio, police said.
