Gur (jaggery) prices saw a rise of Rs 100 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today following paucity of stocks amid better offtake by retailers and stockists.
Muzaffarnagar and Muradnagar gur markets also depicted a firm trend to scarcity of ready stocks amid speculative buying.
Marketmen said acute shortage of stocks due to negligible supplies from manufacturing belts coupled with speculative buying by stockists and retailers, mainly pushed up gur prices.
In Delhi, gur Chakku, Pedi and Dhayya prices settled higher by Rs 100 each to end at Rs 3,600-3,700, Rs 3,800-3,900 and Rs 3,900-4,000 per quintal.
At Muzaffarnagar, gur Chakku prices enquired higher by Rs 50 to end at Rs 3,200-3,300 per quintal.
Gur Rasket prices also climbed by Rs 125 to conclude at Rs 2,700-2,750 per quintal on strong demand from beer makers.
