Gur prices soar on paucity of stocks, speculative buying

Gur prices surged by Rs 200 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today following speculative buying by stockists and retailers driven by paucity of stocks.
Muzaffarnagar and Muradnagar gur markets also ended higher on tight supplies and pick-up in demand.
Marketmen said tight position of ready stocks due to thin arrivals from manufacturing areas on rising mercury amidst speculative buying by stockists and retailers mainly led to the rise in gur prices.
In Delhi, gur Dhayya prices went up by a whopping Rs 200 to finish at Rs 3,100-3,200 per quintal.
Gur Pedi and Shakkar prices also advanced by Rs 100 each to end at Rs 2,900-3,000 and Rs 3,200-3,300 per quintal.
At Muradnagar, gur Pedi and Dhayya enquired higher at Rs 2,500-2,600 and Rs 2,650-2,700 as against Rs 2,450-2,500 and Rs 2,500-2,550 per quintal, previously.

Turning to Muzaffarnagar, prices of gur Chakku ended higher at Rs 2,400-2,700, showing a gain up to Rs 100 per quintal.
Following are today's rates (in Rs per quintal):
Gur chakku Rs 2,700-2,800, pedi Rs 2,900-3,000, dhayya Rs 3,100-3,200 and shakkar Rs 3,200-3,300.
Muzaffarnagar: Rasket Rs 2,300-2,350, chakku Rs 2,400-2,700, khurpa Rs 2,350-2,400 and Ladoo Rs 2,500-2,650.
Muradnagar: Pedi Rs 2,500-2,600 and dhayya Rs 2,650-2,700.
