Bringing glamour to Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat, Bollywood actor Akshaye Khanna today campaigned for his father and BJP candidate Vinod Khanna, telling people that the former MP had always treated the constituency like his fifth child.
"My father has always believed and made us believe that he has a fifth child and that is Gurdaspur," Khanna said while addressing a gathering.
"His biggest asset is his honesty and simplicity. He will promise only if he can deliver," he said.
Claiming that there was a Modi wave across the country, Akshaye Khanna said he was not a political pundit, but even a layman could feel the "groundswell support" for BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
"Vote for Modiji, vote for Vinod Khanna ji, and you will never be disappointed," he added.
Khanna also took part in a roadshow in favour of his father, who is locked in a fierce poll battle against Congress candidate Partap Singh Bajwa.
The roadshow passed through 40 villages in Gurdaspur constituency. During the journey, people were seen jostling to have a glimpse of the actor. They offered food and water to him.
Vinod Khanna, a former Union Minister, is contesting the Lok Sabha elections for the fifth time. He was elected MP in 1998, 1999 and 2004, but was defeated by Bajwa in 2009.
