Raj Bhavan near the Guindy park forest area, on a sprawling 156.14 acre campus, houses many rare and endangered plant species, a release from Raj Bhavan said.
Scientists from the Tamil Nadu University of Agriculture, Coimbatore, recently undertook a survey to study the tree species and identified 264 species of plants including 119 tree species, it said.
"In continuation of this process, a tree census has been organised from November 10 to November 13 to identify and count the number of trees available."
Governor as part of inaugurating the census, tagged a teak tree and released a book on trees of Raj Bhavan penned by the scientists of Agricultural University.
Upon completion of the census, all tree species identified would be documented for future reference.
