A 42-year-old gym franchise owner escaped unhurt after an unidentified person fired at him thrice at the parking lot of a mall in Kothrud area of the city last night, police said.
Police have recovered CCTV footage of the parking lot which shows an unidentified person shooting thrice at the complainant Shakeel Bijapure's car from a short distance.
Deputy commissioner police Tushar Doshi said, "The attack took place when the complainant who owns franchise of a reputed gym brand was leaving for home. He was sitting next to his driver in the car."
The assailant who came on a bike blocked car's way and fired three rounds, but both Bijapure and his driver were not hit.
Bijapure had named a person as a suspect behind the attack, though police have not arrested anyone yet.
"Extortion angle which the complainant suspects is being investigated," the DCP said.
