"The selection makes Bharuka the first non-Japanese to be appointed to the Board of Kansai Paints, Japan," the company said in a statement.
In this new role, Bharuka will contribute towards international business and strategy of Kansai Paints Group, while continuing to be the vice chairman and managing director of Kansai Nerolac Paints India.
Bharuka joined the company in 1985 and was a member of global steering committee of Kansai Paint, Japan from 2011.
Kansai Paint is a Japanese firm with a turnover of USD 3 billion and operations in more than 40 countries.
In recent years, it has been aggressively seeking to become a strong global player by increasing its geographical presence through a number of acquisitions across the world.
In the past one year, it has acquired companies in Africa, Europe, America and South East Asia.
