Members of Handicapped and Blind Union of Punjab today blocked traffic on Phagwara-Hoshiarpur road alleging that their president Lakhvir Singh Saini and ten other members had been detained, a charge denied by police.
The blockade site was hardly 300 yards away from the venue of Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal's rally.
Led by union leader Manjit Singh Manna, the activists blocked the road. They also alleged they were assaulted by police. Police, however, denied it.
Manna said their leaders were prevented from meeting Sukhbir whom they wanted to present a memorandum. But police detained the delegation.
City SHO Ravinder Singh denied any arrest and detention.
Later, the blockade was withdrawn after Saini appeared at the site.
