"It has been impressed upon all the handicraft dealers that their businesses shall fall within the ambit of Tourist Trade Act, as per which it is mandatory for them to acquire a valid TTRC from Directorate of Handicrafts," an official spokesman said.
He said the dealers should also refrain from indulging in any kind of malpractice like cheating, dishonesty, touting, impersonation, charging exorbitant prices, failure to display price on the labels and failure to give cash memos.
Kashmir Valley is witnessing heavy rush of tourists, both domestic and foreign, following which a number of handicraft business establishments have come up along the roadside from Narbal to Tangnmarg en route to Gulmarg hill resort in north Kashmir.
In order to ensure that these establishments are running their businesses in conformity to the Tourist Trade Act and also to safeguard the interests of tourists visiting the state, the spokesman said an enforcement team of directorate of handicrafts conducted surprise inspection of showrooms in Narbal, Chichlora, Waripora, Kunzar and Dhobiwan in and around Tangmarg and Nishat and Shalimar along the banks of Dal Lake yesterday.
