The Dalai Lama said he has "completely retired" from the political role of the Tibetan Government though he has no "retirement from Dalai Lamaship."

"Last year, I handed over the political authority to an elected, young and energetic leadership. It is a very good move. I have completely retired now. I am happy that I ended a tradition of Dalai Lamas being political and spiritual head. This is my biggest achievment," he told a health conference here.

However, the spiritual leader said he would continue to espouse the Tibetan cause as long as he was alive.

In a lighter vein, he said he had a "very unusual sound sleep" on the day he announced his retirement from politics last year.

"Somewhere it was bothering me that I had a heavy responsibility. But I had a very unusual sound sleep that day. But I dont have retirement from Dalai Lamaship," he said.

Speaking on how to control anger, the Dalai Lama said when Tibetans were beaten up by Chinese in March, 2008 he was reminded of the 1959 Tibetan uprising.

"But we controlled our anger and we did open the channel of dialogue. Anger has to be controlled," he said.

Speaking at the World Congress of International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders organised by Max Hospitals, the Dalai Lama said India is a "living example" of how people from all religions of the world live together.

Though there are some exceptions when "minor scuffles" happen between members of two communities, the Dalai Lama said, India has shown the way on how many religions can co-exist.
