An official spokesman said here today that in pursuance of the orders of Punjab and Haryana High Court in a civil writ petition, the government has extended the scope of Justice (retd) T P Garg Commission to cover the area of Pataudi and any other area of Gurgaon district in addition to the area already assigned (Rewari).

A notification to this effect has been issued by the state government, the spokesman said.

The state government had appointed a Commission of Inquiry headed by Justice Garg to probe the killing of Sikhs in Haud Chillar village in district Rewari and the damage caused to properties of Sikhs living there in incidents of violence in the anti-Sikh riots of November 1984.

However, this Commission will not inquire into the incidents which have already been investigated by Justice Nanavati Commission set up by the Central Government, the spokesman said, adding any claim of the victims from Pataudi and Gurgaon district, which had not been considered by Justice Nanavati can be made before Justice Garg Commission.

Headed by Justice Garg, a retired Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court, the COI had been set up in March last year.

The Commission had been appointed following demands from different sections of people for an enquiry into various aspects of the incidents of violence in the village.

The village consisting of torched houses, a burnt Sikh shrine and scattered human bones had been discovered last year.
