Har govt forms committee to preserve archival materials

The Committee would advise the government on the survey of manuscripts and documents and on books published prior to 1900, rare private papers, paintings of historical, administrative, archival and cultural value in private custody and private papers of eminent persons, old family notes and business houses of Haryana and to assist in acquisition by donation or loan.

According to an official spokesman, Director General, Archives Department, Haryana and Director General of Archives, National Archives of India, New Delhi would be the official members of the Committee.

The non-official members of the committee would be Chairman, Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi, Head of Department of History, Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Head of the Department of History, Kurushetra University, Kurushtera.

He said that the Committee would induce individuals, institutions, societies and business houses to send their documents and photographs of historical, administrative and cultural importance to Archives Department for proper use by bonafide research scholars.

He said that the committee would advice the Department of Archives to acquire typed, Photostat, Xerox or microfilm copies of those important documents and books which the owners do not want to part with.

He said that the committee would advice the Department of Archives to register those important documents of public records and on any other technical matter in respect of archives.

Also, the committee would advise the State Government regarding enactment of archival law.
