The state government has ensured election of only educated persons as representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) to ensure development and empowerment of villages, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said at the 'Gramin Vikas ke liye Tarun (GRAVIT)- Shikshit se Saksham ki Ore' programme in Rohtak.
He also launched training programmes for GRAVIT volunteers, three-month certificate course for PRI representatives and released the course curriculum.
The Chief Minister expressed hope that 60,000 youth under GRAVIT along with 60,000 PRI representatives would transform villages.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar alleged that previous governments had neglected to formulate schemes for education and health, and to strengthen the PRIs.
Expressing happiness over Haryana soon becoming an open defecation-free state, he said, "Tata Trust will associate one worker with the cleanliness campaign in each of 600 districts across the country."
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Urban, about six crore people would be provided with affordable housing by 2022. Besides, discussion would be held with Panchayati Raj ministers to replicate the GRAVIT scheme in their respective states, he added.
