"The 'Standard Treatment Guidelines' would act as guide for doctors," Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Navraj Sandhu today said after inaugurating a one-day state level workshop organised here by Health Department to promote rational use medicine.
"We will encourage our doctors to prescribe rationally. Rational use of medicine means that a patient receives right dose of medicine for the disease at affordable cost for appropriate time so that he or she gets well," she said.
Sandhu said "we must quantify the drug requirement based on disease profile and not previous years consumption."
She said the Government was planning to train its doctors in a phased manner, first at state level to create a master group and master group will train others at district level.
"Private sector would also be involved for their participation and suggestions. Doctors from Medical Colleges will also be made part of such sensitisation workshops," the official release.
Sandhu said in the past few years, Haryana has taken major initiative to make essential medicines available free of cost in all its health facilities.
