Harassed by in-laws for giving birth to 5 girls, woman sets

An eight-month pregnant woman set herself afire over alleged harassment by her husband and in-laws over giving birth to five daughters, police said.
The incident took place on June 20 when the victim, perturbed over harrasment for six years by her husband and in-laws for giving birth to five daughters, committed suicide by immolating herself, police said.
The woman, identified as Mamta, was married to one Monu in 2008 and had been staying with him at Palwal in Haryana.
The harassment began after the birth of her first daughter, the victim said in her dying statement to police.
On June 14 this year, Monu abandoned Mamta on the outskirts of the Nagaliya Udaybhan village and threatened to kill her if she dared to return to Palwal, the police said quoting the statement.
Mamta reached her brother Mahendra Singh's residence on June 20 and set herself ablaze, police said, adding that she later succumbed to injuries.
An FIR in this connection was lodged by Mahendra Singh.
