Harassed and assaulted by his dipsomaniac son, an elderly man has knocked at the doors of the Delhi High Court, which came to his rescue and asked the police to protect him and rush to his help the moment it receives a SOS (Save our Souls) call from him.
Rajvir Sharma, 66, who lives with his 65-year-old spouse in their own house along with his two sons, was left with no option but to approach the court as one of his sons, an alcoholic, used to abuse, beat, threaten and demand money from him.
A bench of Justice Ashutosh Kumar considered the fact that the old man stayed in the same house along with his accused son and said, "the SHO of the police station concerned is directed to take steps to ensure the safety and security of the petitioner, who is an aged person."
"For the aforesaid purpose, the petitioner (father) shall be made known the telephone numbers of two of the officers posted in the police station. In case of any SOS call from the petitioner, it is expected that the aforesaid two officers shall respond promptly and forthwith," the court directed.
The Delhi Police informed the court that the son was now repentant and has assured that he will behave. The 22-year-old alcoholic son has promised to mend his ways, assuring that he will not trouble his father, it said.
Sharma, in his plea filed through lawyer Amit Kumar, had submitted that he and his old and ailing wife should be allowed to live peacefully, with dignity and self-respect while alleging that his son has made their lives miserable.
Feeling unsafe and insecure, the man had initially filed a complaint with police station in Vijay Vihar in west Delhi on August 2 and called up the PCR van once on August 17. However, the police failed to take any action.

"The petitioner has to work as a labourer in this old age, in a private company at Rithala in order to maintain himself as well as his 65-year-old wife," the plea had said, adding that neither of the two sons support the parent.
The senior citizen alleged that he did not want anything from any of his sons but did not want to be abused, assaulted and forced to part with the hard-earned money at the fag end of their lives.
He had also alleged that the younger son severely beat him up and used abusive language under the influence of liquor and drugs, if he refuses to give money.
